Xander™ is having a nice 2016. In the last two months he’s directed a poignant national campaign for Hulu and three new Disney spots (Stormtroopers!).
We are so proud of him for all of the heartfelt work that he’s been doing… but this one takes the cake. This beautifully provocative piece is for Mythic Bridge: an organization that encourages at-risk LGBTQ teens by promoting filmmaking as a way to express themselves. Xander™ brought a balance of sensitivity and subtlety to this message that is hard to turn away from. Take a look and you’ll see what I mean.
We are so happy that this critically important message is getting the attention that it deserves. Here is what people are saying:
"Directed by Xander of Backyard Productions, it opens with a young man stumbling onto a rooftop, clutching his phone and walking toward the edge as accusing hisses and whispers swirl around him. He approaches the ledge and looks down, and for a minute we can see his phone messages: They're all from him to his family—an apology for existing that doubles, in this case, as a suicide note." - AdWeek
"... you'll have to watch the video to learn how the story ends. But here's a hint: the PSA is part of the "Change the Script" campaign from creative agencies Rabbit, Rabbit & Partners and Happy United, and per their statement, "The piece takes a meta approach to peer into Mythic Bridge's youth filmmaking workshops" and is ultimately about "the power of storytelling to affect change." - Creativity Online
"Mythic Bridge supports at-risk youth through the transformative power of filmmaking. We enable them to actualize their potential through filmmaking workshops. In honor of National Suicide Prevention month, we are promoting our LGBTQ filmmaking programs. This series of workshops were created specifically for LGBTQ youth and their supportive straight peers. Through this programming, these kids are able to share their stories in a safe, accepting environment and learn that their voices have value and the power to break through to the community." - Mythic Bridge via Huffington Post
"That's one question posed in a new PSA from nonprofit Mythic Bridge, a group that uses filmmaking to empower at-risk youth. The organization's "Change the Script" campaign aims to shed light on the issue of LGBTQ youth suicide — a silent crisis that's taking far too many young lives, even amid the growing acceptance of queer people and relationships. In the powerful new video, we see the moment a desperate young man decides to jump off a rooftop (before learning that, fortunately, it wasn't the end to his story." - Upworthy
