Kim has spent the last two months working with MTV and some of the biggest celebrities in the business to create a campaign for the 2014 VMAs. Check out her first spot featuring Adam Levine here:
On first viewing, these spots look very simple, but they were far from it. Try to imagine a camera track in to within six inches of your face while you attempt to act relaxed and normal. It's a disconcerting experience no matter how famous you are. Kim did a fantastic job getting each of these talented performers in a headspace to pull these off in the little amount of time she had with them. Here is Taylor Swift:
After she finished shooting each talent, Kim then took her performers to a quiet place where she asked them to reminisce on their past VMA experiences, or reflect on the excitement of their upcoming performance. These conversations were recorded, and the clips were used as audio backdrop to complete the spots. Check out Nicki Minaj here:
Finally, Kim and MTV wanted to have some fun with the performers by resurrecting the classic "I Want My MTV." Some of them wanted to shout it out, some wanted to sing it, and a few of the younger artists didn't even know what "I Want My MTV" meant. Check out Five Seconds of Summer here:
The VMAs will air on Sunday night, August 24th.
